William Wooddell Becomes New Assistant Superintendent of Salida School District

William Wooddell was named as the new Assistant Superintendent for the Salida School District and is scheduled to begin work in his new role on July 1, 2022. Wooddell, as the assistant superintendent, will be responsible for coordinating human resources and hiring, will oversee all district department managers, guide special education, gifted and talented education, assessment and testing, and district safety and security. The District will immediately begin a search for a principal for SMS for the ’22-’23 school year.

The City of Salida Fire Department has scheduled a full fireworks display for July 4th. Spiral Drive on Tenderfoot Mountain will be closed at the gate to all traffic—vehicle, bike, and foot traffic, on the 4th. All biking trails crossing Spiral Drive on Tenderfoot will be closed as well to ensure the safety of all involved.

A 29-year-old Leadville man faces life in prison after a Lake County jury found him guilty of murdering his uncle in 2020. Jurors convicted Eric C.
