The Pistol Shrimp defeated the visitors from Normal Saturday night 8-6. Illinois Valley was outhit 7 to 5 but did enough to beat the CornBelters in Peru. Ty Weatherly got the win on the mound with Jared Herzog picking up the save. Bobby Cavin hit a home run and drove in 4 runs.

Kewanee Police officer recovers from knife wounds as Sunday arrest goes awry

A Kewanee Police officer suffered several knife-cut wounds after he and another officer tried to disarm an armed man Sunday outside JoJos gas station in Kewanee. Austin Norberg, 33, of Annawan, Norberg appeared in Henry County Court on Monday on charges of Armed Violence with a Category II Weapon, Aggravated Battery to a Peace Officer, and Unlawful Possession of a Weapon by a Felon.

24th/Wenzel Road between LaSalle and Peru opens Friday morning

LASALLE – 24th Street/Wenzel Road between LaSalle and Peru will open up on Friday morning. Workers will be on the road removing the barricades and officials say the road should be opened by 8 a.m. Peru and LaSalle city officials had a ribbon cutting to celebrate the end of construction that began in late March. The new roadway is designed to handle stormwater and is wider by around 7 feet.

Illinois 78 Work Near Annawan Begins July 5

The Illinois Department of Transportation announced today that weather permitting, construction on Illinois 78 north of Annawan will begin Tuesday, July 5. Work includes pipe culvert improvements through the levees at Coal Creek, north of Annawan. Shoulder closures will be utilized, and drivers should be prepared to stop for flaggers, who will be directing traffic. The project is expected to be completed by Aug. 19.

Fire District Benefits From Moore Foundation, Ambulance Service Adds Drivers

The Prophetstown Fire Protection District learned they were the recipient of two donations from Prophetstown’s Moore Foundation during their June board meeting. The fire department received a grant in the amount of $22,000 for 20 portable radios and signal repeater. The system will help boost communication in the southern part of the district.

Pistol Shrimp lead series with Bees; final game Friday in Peru

The Pistol Shrimp are on some kind of roll. The Shrimp have performed well on the road winning two at Burlington. Now, they return home with the Bees in tow to conclude the three game set Friday night. On Wednesday, the “Boys from Peru” topped Burlington 13 -8. Recording hits and RBI's were Zach Lane, Jack Johnston, Bobby Cavin and Dio Cornet with two hits and an RBI. And, Thursday night, the Bees were thumped 11 – 1. Tucker Bougie had three hits and four RBI's. Overall, seventeen hits came off the Pistol Shrimp bats.
