The Missouri Highway Patrol arrested a woman in Buchanan County on four felonies. The arrest report says 29-year-old Athena R. Tinsley of Independence was arrested at 9:40 am. Arresting charges include felony tampering with a motor vehicle in the first degree, misdemeanor fraudulent use of a credit device, felony possession of stolen property, felony fugitive from out of state, and felony possession of controlled substance – marijuana.

Two issues up for vote have been approved by voters with 16.9% voter turnout. A city parks tax and a county law enforcement tax have both passed overwhelmingly. Public invited to 'Night Out' with law enforcement

Hundreds of law enforcement agencies nationwide plan an event for the same night to bring families out and get to know people in the community. This year, National Night Out will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 3. The St. Joseph Police Department’s event will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Civic Center Park, said Sgt. Roy Hoskins. SJPD applying for federal grant in order to get equipment

The St. Joseph Police Department is applying for a $35,000 federal grant that also will benefit the Buchanan County Drug Strike Force. The money would come from the Edward Byrne Grant, which allocates federal funds to law enforcement departments based on crime statistics. Capt. Richard Eaton, the St. Joseph police grants and accreditation manager, has been working on the proposals for weeks and said the money would allow the department to buy supplies and equipment.

St. Joseph woman injured after driver falls asleep behind the wheel in Buchanan County

BUCHANAN COUNTY, Mo. — A St. Joseph woman was injured in a Buchanan County accident Monday morning. According to a Missouri State Highway Patrol report, Wesley H. Darnell, 18, of St. Joseph, was driving northbound on Interstate-29 at MM around 12:05 a.m. He fell asleep behind the wheel, traveled off the west side of the roadway, returned to the road, overcorrected, left the east side of the roadway and overturned. Darnell’s passenger, Megan M. Schussler, 18, also of St. Joseph, was moderately injured and transported by private vehicle to Mosaic Life Care in St. Joseph for treatment.
