Cases of anthrax confirmed in Sedgwick County cattle

The Colorado state veterinarian’s office has confirmed a case of anthrax in a beef cattle herd in Sedgwick County. The case was confirmed at the CSU Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory on July 23 after the producer had seven acute deaths in the herd. A second positive case in a nearby beef herd was confirmed positive July 26.

Legion ball team being formed in Grant

Drought, irrigation expected to drain 2 Colorado reservoirs

DENVER (AP) — It’s open season with no limit on walleye, saugeye, crappie, perch, wiper and catfish at two Eastern Plains reservoirs. As severe drought spikes demand for irrigation water on the plains, Colorado Parks and Wildlife is dropping angler limits at the South Platte River-fed Jumbo Reservoir near Julesburg and the Arkansas River-fed Queens Reservoir north of Lamar. The agency expects both reservoirs to soon run dry and lose all fish.

Senior Nationals Finish Their Season In The Class B Area 7 Legion Tournament

The Senior Nationals finished their season with a 5-1 loss to Gering Sunday afternoon in Ogallala. The game was a quick and well played. The Nats took the lead in the first with Dawson Dunbar scoring on a fielder’s choice by Broc Berry. The game turned into a pitcher’s duel from there. Berry had the mound for Chadron where he threw four shutout innings before giving up two unearned runs in the fifth. Gering added on two more runs in the top of the seventh to seal the Nats fate. Berry had another great game on the mound striking out five with only one walk. Garrett Reece saw the ball well, going 2-3 at the plate. Caden Buskirk, Kobe Bissonette, and Berry had the other three hits for Chadron.

MPCC Ogallala Campus launches aviation class

Those interested in learning how to pilot a plane will have the opportunity to do so through the Mid-Plains Community College Ogallala Campus. A private pilot certificate preparation class has been added to the lineup of course offerings this fall, the college said in a press release. Sessions are scheduled for 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 9-11 with instructor Ron Schmidt, a general aviation pilot.
