Spring Piano Showcase held in Hazard

On Friday, May 20, community members gathered to support the arts and enjoy the annual spring piano showcase. Under the direction of Kay Crowe, a piano instructor at the Appalachian Arts Alliance, several local students performed songs of their choice. Crowe, who had a 30 year career as a music educator for the Perry County school system where she taught choir, band and general music education, said she feels that the event went really well and said having opportunities like this helps the students tremendously.

HAZARD, Ky. (WYMT) - Buckle up. The next couple of days could be a wild ride when it comes to storms and rain chances. A couple of different systems are approaching from the south. That will bring us waves of rain and increased chances for strong to severe storms. Let’s start with today. We will wake up in the 60s with some scattered showers around. Mostly cloudy skies will plague us most of the day, with some peeks of sunshine possible at times. Highs will top out in the low 80s.

Free 2-day pop-up health clinic in Hazard in June

HAZARD, Ky. (WTVQ/PRESS RELEASE) – Remote Area Medical (RAM), a nonprofit provider of pop-up clinics delivering free, dental, vision and medical care to those in need, will hold a free, two-day clinic June 11-12. According to RAM, it will be set up at the East Perry Elementary School at 301 Perry Circle Rd. in Hazard for two days. The clinic is in collaboration with University of Kentucky Center for Excellence in Rural Health.

Geraldine Brashear, 88, of Viper, died Thursday, May 19, 2022 at Pikeville Medical Center. She was born in Hazard, February 2, 1934, the daughter of the late Enoch Caudill and the late Hazel McIntyre Caudill. Geraldine and Nathan was avid dirt track racers, she was an avid reader as well as a member of the Bethanna Baptist Church at Cornettsville.
