Crookston voters reject referendum

It was close….but Crookston voters have rejected a $3.9 million dollar school referendum. The money would have been used for a new multi-use sports complex. The district was targeting property north and east of the high school. It would have included artificial turf…and eight lane track…press box…seating for 750…concessions…and a bathroom.

Crookston school referendum fails by just 9 votes

CROOKSTON, Minn. (Valley News Live) - A near-split decision as voters decided on whether or not to approve a bond referendum for the Crookston School District. In the August 9 primary election, 842 people voted against the referendum and 833 in favor. People in Crookston were voting on a $3,915,000 project that would have included an artificial turf field, eight-lane track, press box, seating for more than 750 people, a concession stand and bathrooms.

Primary voting in Crookston is underway at the First Presbyterian Church and St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, with Election Administrator Ashley Rystad reporting that it’s been a steady flow of voters coming in since the polls opened at 7:00 a.m. this morning. “It was a normal steady rush in the beginning, and people have been trickling in,” said Rystad. “People have been coming in and keep trickling in, but usually, after the work hours are when we get really busy.”

 Jean Marie Svedahl, 81, of Crookston, passed away on Monday, August 8th, 2022, in the Fair Meadow Nursing Home at Fertile.  Jean was born in Crookston on November 21, 1940, one of three children to Henry and Delia (Warner) Fortier. She graduated from Crookston High School in 1958. Jean married Ralph (Bud) Svedahl in Pittman NJ on June 27, 1959. Bud and Jean spent many years living in New Jersey, Montana, and Minnesota before moving back to Crookston in 1989.

CROOKSTON CITY COUNCIL TO BEGIN DRAFTING ORDINANCES FOR SALES OF HEMP DEPRIVED THC FOOD AND BEVERAGES

The Crookston City Council met on Monday night at 7:00 p.m. inside the City Hall Council Chambers in the lower level of City Hall. The council first heard from Michelle Christopherson of the University of Minnesota Crookston, who came forward to thank the council for their participation in the Night 2 Unite event. She then explained that she had met with Interim City Administrator Charles “Corky” Reynolds and Parks and Recs Director Jake Solberg on June 16 to request the addition of four items in the future. These included the sales of alcohol at the Crookston Eagles for their first hockey game on October 14, creating a curling league, hosting a curling tournament, and hiring a vendor to sell alcohol and hard seltzer at the curling tournament if it passes.
