The Cambridge-Isanti Bluejackets football team has a new hashtag — #playforhouts — created in honor of Brandon Houtsma, assistant coach and a sixth-grade math teacher at the middle school. Players and anyone who wishes are using the hashtag to pay respects to the teacher and coach, who was killed June 17 in Kanabec County in a pickup crash. He was 37. SANDSTONE, Minn.– The Wildcat Sanctuary in Sandstone is launching a campaign to build an upgraded food and wellness center for their big rescue cats. The Wildcat sanctuary is home to 130 recuse lions, leopards, tigers and more. In order to supply the basic daily needs of these animals, they are fundraising to remodel their current health and wellness center. The new center is nicknamed Kitu’s Kitchen, after a rescue cheetah in the facility.

It spent three years… almost to the day, drifting in Mille Lacs Lake before Matt Gravel found it after it washed up on shore in Wahkon. Matt, 11, often goes beach combing along the shore in front of his grandmother’s home. It’s usually junk that washes up on shore but this particular day he found a long-lost wallet. It took several days to dry out the papers, but they were able to determine the owner was Joseph Burr of Cannon Falls. Matt and his grandmother reached out to Burr and much to their surprise, Burr showed up at her door, letter in hand. Burr told them that he was fishing in June 1994 when the wind came up, as he tried to regain balance, the wallet fell into the lake. The waves were too rough to retrieve it. With the winds from the north on this lake, lots of things roll in but this is the first wallet. How is that for a miracle?

Three were sent to the hospital Monday afternoon following a two-vehicle crash on Highway 70, west of I-35 near milepost 17. According to the State Patrol, a Ford Explorer, driven by 59-year-old Julie Dickey, was traveling east on 70 when it crossed the centerline as the roadway curved right and stuck a Chevrolet Silverado, driven by 45-year-old Marlin James Ladean, that was traveling west.
