A well-being check Thursday morning at a residence in the Town of Stockton led to the arrest of a Stockton woman. Chautauqua County Sheriff's deputies responded to an address on Putnam Road in the Town of Stockton shortly after 9:15 AM and found that 32-year-old Heather Dempsey allegedly harassed another person and threatened them if they tried to contact the police. Dempsey was charged with 3rd-degree coercion and 2nd-degree harassment and was taken to the Chautauqua County Jail for centralized arraignment.

A Jamestown resident and attorney has been named chairman of a Western New York law firm. John I. LaMancuso joined Lewis & Lewis, P.C. as an associate attorney in 2014 before being named partner in 2019. LaMancuso takes on this leadership role following the departure of Lewis & Lewis partner George Panebianco, who was appointed Jamestown City Court Judge at the beginning of the year. Lewis & Lewis operates from five offices in Western New York, including Jamestown.

JAMESTOWN – Two students from JHS recently took first and second place in JCC’s tenth annual College Connections Speech Contest. A search of an apartment on Newland Avenue in Jamestown led to four arrests on Thursday. Members of the Jamestown Metro Drug Task Force and the Chautauqua County Sheriff's Office executed a search warrant at 631 Newland Avenue shortly after 5 pm. The search led to discovery of a quantity of fentanyl, methamphetamine, scales, packaging materials, and a .22 caliber rifle. Police have charged 57-year-old Bernard Philbrick, 40-year-old Samantha Ackler, 29-year-old Savannah Gross and 31-year-old Corey Keeler with 4th-degree criminal possession of a weapon, since all four are convicted felons. Police also charged them with two counts of 7th-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, and 2nd-degree criminally using drug paraphernalia. Keeler was also charged with 7th-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance after police found fentanyl on his person. The four were transported to the Jamestown City Jail and arraigned in City Court.

The State University of New York at Fredonia's Jazz Studies program recently won an award from a music magazine for a second time. The Fredonia Jazz Flextet, an ensemble with different instrument combinations and up to 12 musicians, won DownBeat magazine's 2022 award for Outstanding Performance by a College Large Jazz Ensemble, just three years after the New Jazz Ensemble received the same award. Will review a resolution at its work session to use $3.2 million of American Rescue Plan funds to hire three Jamestown Police officers and four Jamestown firefighters.
