Market Basket: Latest local retail and restaurant news

With summertime underway, area food trucks have become more frequent around town. Events like For the Win Food Trucks on Wednesdays near the Ball Band Biergarten in Mishawaka and Fridays by the Fountain in downtown South Bend allow the opportunity for food truck operators to reach customers on a more consistent basis. Businesses like Barnes and Thornburg are also partnering with area food trucks, hosting a “Food Truck Philanthropy” event every two weeks where a local food truck will park in front of the law offices in downtown South Bend and a portion of the proceeds will go to a local nonprofit. The next event will be on June 24 with Real Grille. However, many food truck operators say private events have them booked throughout the summer. You can read more about how some are managing it in today’s Market Basket column.
