NEWBURGH – A man and woman from Beacon were both shot at 3 a.m. on Saturday, June 25 and at 11:55 p.m. on Sunday, the 26th, a 17-year-old Newburgh boy was shot in the back. Newburgh City Police said the Beacon residents arrived at Montefiore St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital with gunshot wounds early Saturday. The female victim was shot in the foot and the male victim had been shot in the calf. Both are 23 years old.

TEANECK, N.J. -- Police are investigating the drowning of a 7-year-old girl. It happened during a backyard pool party on Westervelt Place in Teaneck on Sunday night. Police said the child was first reported missing at around 6 p.m. She was later found in the pool. The girl was pronounced dead at Holy Name Medical Center. Police said the pool had been rented out for the party.

The Westminster Dog Show is a reliably great source of entertainment, launching pets like Wasabi the Pekingese into the upper echelons of animal stardom. This year, the winner of the coveted Best in Show prize was a stately bloodhound named Trumpet, but it must be said that he had some stiff canine competition.
