Farm to Fork offers unique experience for consumers, farmers

For the second time, the Aberdeen Area Chamber of Commerce’s Agribusiness Committee will be have an event designed to start conversations between farmers and consumers. The menu for the event includes seven food stations and three different beverage stations serving locally grown and produced beer and wine. At the event, producers will be on hand to talk to diners and have casual conversations about modern farming practices.

Council approves ATV purchase for the police department

The Aberdeen Police Department is trading in two motorcycles and using unspent funds from the 2021 budget to purchase a 2021 Yamaha all-terrain vehicle. In comments to the Aberdeen City Council Monday. Police Chief Dave McNeil said recent activity has shown the need for the ATV to help with patrolling the city parks, responding to incidents and events, searching for missing people and clearing an area of suspicious objects and hazards. The ATV can also be used in parades and for community engagement purposes.

A citywide ground spray for mosquitoes is planned on Thursday from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m., according to a news release from the Aberdeen Parks, Recreation and Forestry Department. West Nile virus has been identified in Aberdeen and city officials urge citizens to take reasonable precautions to avoid being bitten by mosquitoes, like eliminating mosquito habitat around property, applying insect repellents and wearing proper clothing when outdoors.

Sisseton man sentenced for abusive sexual contact of a child

A Sisseton man was sentenced to more than 16 years in prison on a charge of abusive sexual contact. According to a news release from the U.S. Attorney's Office, Okokipe Jones, 47, was sentenced to 200 months in federal prison and 10 years of supervised release and must pay a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund. He was sentenced at the Aberdeen federal courthouse.
