Trial date set for Michigan man accused of murder, cannibalism

CORUNNA, Mich. (WILX) - A trial date has been set for Mark Latunski, the man charged in the 2019 murder of a Swartz Creek man. Latunski is accused of killing and mutilating 25-year-old Kevin Bacon in December 2019. The trial is scheduled to begin Oct. 18 now that Latunski has been found competent to stand trial.

City Council OKs Currie Parkway Bridge repair funds

Midland City Council heard a presentation on the status of Currie Parkway Bridge and voted on funding regarding bridge repairs. The Rollin M. Gerstacker Foundation agreed to cover the costs of repairs and modifications, with the current total estimate at about $639,000, said City Manager Brad Kaye. He added that the city hopes to start construction after this year’s Dow Great Lakes Bay Invitational pro golf tournament, which is from July 10-16 at the Midland Country Club. Council unanimously accepted the gift from the foundation.

Saginaw Township police officer shot on duty in 2019 returning to patrol

SAGINAW TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WJRT) - A Saginaw Township police officer who was injured in a shooting on duty more than three years ago soon will return to road patrol. Jeff Koenig was shot in the face and shoulder in January 2019 while making a traffic stop of a stolen pickup truck near the intersection of Bay and Tittabawassee roads in Saginaw Township.
