Gainesville-area resident Bonnie Luna has never starred in a TV crime-story series, but she’s still pondering how closely reality mimicked fiction when she was in a Branson store May 6 that was hit by a would-be robber. And while the attempted robbery was thwarted by bystanders, the story ended in tragedy.

If you’ve been to the Republic Community Center lately, you’ve probably noticed four miniature-sized houses on the grounds behind the facility. These little buildings, small-scaled replicas of larger structures including a Lowe’s store, a barn, a house and a workshop, are part on an upcoming play village that is designed to inspire creative thought in young minds.

Driver dies in crash near Cape Fair, Mo.

CAPE FAIR, Mo. (KY3) - The Missouri Highway Patrol investigates a deadly crash in Stone County. Pamela Humiston, 61, of Cape Fair, died in the crash. Troopers responded to the crash Monday afternoon on Missouri 76, five miles east of Cape Fair. Investigators say Humiston’s vehicle crossed the centerline and struck a second vehicle. Humiston died at the scene. The driver of the second vehicle suffered moderate injuries.

Garbee powers Billings to second straight district title

Hurley, MO – The Billings Wildcats won their second straight Class 1 District 7 title when they took home the trophy on Tuesday night in a comeback that will be long remembered by the Wildcat faithful. Billings was led by junior Brayden Garbee who pitched eight strong innings and hit the walk-off homerun to win the game. Garbee’s homerun was a no-doubter to deep left field.

Sparta Man Injured In a Cemetery Crash

Ava, MO. – A Sparta man has suffered injuries as a result of a crash that happened on Sunday, May 15th of 2022. Michael Spurlock, 40 of Sparta, MO, was driving Eastbound along Highway 14, 12 miles west of Ava, when he crashed. Spurlock was driving a 2006 Yamaha motorcycle, when, at roughly 7:45 AM, he traveled off the left side of the roadway, struck a fence, and a cemetery headstone.

Republic graduates 331, Ash Grove 52 in commencements. The Republic High School class of 2022 made their transition into adulthood during their graduation ceremony at the Great Southern Bank Arena on the Missouri State University campus on Sunday, May 15. During the ceremony, 331 high school seniors received their diplomas, marking the end of their time at Republic High School and the beginning of a new journey as they made their way toward the future.

Forecast: Steamy Weather Comes With A Risk Of A Few Severe Storms

The steam machine is cranking back up and so are storm chances. We had a small round of storms that developed just north of the state line that packed a punch. Heavy rainfall, lightning and gusty winds were also accompanied by large hail in a couple of the storms. The most intense storm was one that developed over Southern Stone County. Hail up to ping pong ball size fell out of that storm just south of Kimberling City. The storms have since weakened and should fade away by midnight.

McMillin’s big day highlights Republic track district meet

Republic track athletes qualify for sectionals in 15 total events at Carl Junction. Devon McMillin led the way for Republic at the district track meet in Carl Junction, Saturday. McMillin qualified for sectionals in all four of his events. He was a district champion in the high jump. In all, Republic qualified for sectionals in 15 events.

Berryville High School Senior named as victim in fatal Carroll County car crash

CARROLL COUNTY, Ark. — A Berryville High School senior was named as the victim in a fatal car accident that took place Sunday night, May 15. Arkansas State Police say 18-year-old Matthew Jay Hausman was driving down County Road 601 in Carroll County when he lost control of the vehicle. The Police say the car went off the left side of the road, hit a tree and left the car overturned on its top.
