More details released after Chemung Co. man arrested following child abduction, multi-county chase

ELMIRA, N.Y. (WENY) -- More charges have been filed against the man accused of abducting a child and leading police on a multi-county chase on Tuesday, June 22. As WENY News reported, on June 22, police were alerted a man had assaulted someone and abducted a child in Chemung County. The suspect, Somers, was then pulled over in Watkins Glen. Police say he refused to get out of the car and led officers on a chase, which ended in Yates County after officers put down stop sticks and Somers' car went into a ditch.

Man Thrown From Motorcycle Following Route 104 Accident

A man was found lying semiconscious in the middle of State Route 104 in the area of Lakeside Road in the town of Ontario Wednesday night following a motorcycle accident. 23-year old Scott Saucier of Rochester was traveling west at around 10 o’clock when he lost control of his motorcycle. He was ejected from his bike as it slid on its side for several hundred feet. Saucier was taken to Strong for wounds to his abdomen and a broken clavicle.

Dundee Firefighters Rescue Cats From House Fire

A Waugh Road home in the town of Starkey was damaged by fire late Wednesday afternoon. When they first arrived on the scene, Dundee firefighters were able to rescue several cats that were indoors, with at least one succumbing to smoke inhalation. No one was inside of the home at the time of the fire, and no injuries were reported. The house sustained a significant amount of fire, smoke, and water damage.

Junius Man Suffers Life-Threatening Injuries Following Two-Car Accident Near Outlet Mall

Information has been released regarding a serious motor vehicle accident that happened on State Route 318 in the town of Junius Wednesday night. The Seneca County Sheriff’s Office reports 20-year old Shyquest Powell, of Syracuse, was allegedly driving a Mercedes Benz in a reckless manner when she rear-ended a car driven by 66-year old Brett Rising of Junius. The impact sent Rising’s car off the southside of the road before rolling over several times and coming to rest along a utility pole. Rising was ejected from the vehicle and sustained life-threatening injuries. Powell’s car came to rest in the middle of the road and she and a 17-year old female passenger attempted to flee the scene on foot. The two girls were picked up by a passing motorist and were seen loading a large number of clothes from their car into the other vehicle. That car was subsequently pulled over on State Route 5 in Seneca Falls with Powell and the 17 yr old being taken into custody without incident. Rising was airlifted to Strong Memorial Hospital and is listed in unsatisfactory condition.
