Michigan priest on leave after alleged inappropriate texts with high school kids

A Michigan priest has been placed on leave indefinitely after an investigation into allegations of inappropriate texting with multiple high school students. The Archdiocese of Gaylord, in Northern Michigan, said on Friday that in 2021, it became aware of electronic messages sent by Father Bryan Medlin to a small number of high school students that “appeared to violate diocesan policies and protocols.”

Northern Michigan Priest to Remain on Administrative Leave Following Investigation by Diocese of Gaylord

A northern Michigan priest will remain on administrative leave following an investigation by the Diocese of Gaylord. The Michigan Attorney General’s office began investigating Father Bryan Medlin in late 2021 after the Diocese of Gaylord reported that Medlin had allegedly sent inappropriate messages to high school students. Father Medlin was placed on leave during the civil investigation and an internal canonical investigation by the diocese. The Attorney General’s office chose not to charge Medlin, saying his actions do not meet the threshold of criminal conduct.

Harbor Springs man killed in motorcycle accident on Wednesday

A Harbor Springs man was killed following a motorcycle and deer collision accident that took place early Wednesday morning. According to a press release from the Emmet County Sheriff's Office, at approximately 4:35 a.m. on Wednesday, June 22, officers responded to a single vehicle personal injury accident on Schmalzried Road, between Old School House Road and Hiar Road in Carp Lake Township.
