U.S. Geological Survey reports earthquake in Boyd County

The U.S. Geological Survey said an earthquake occurred in Boyd County Friday morning. According to the USGS, a 3.7 magnitude earthquake was observed around 10:30 a.m. 10 kilometers northeast of Anoka in Boyd County near the Nebraska-South Dakota border. The USGS said the earthquake had a depth of approximately 5 kilometers. It added the earthquake occurred in a sparsely populated area, with Sioux Falls, S.D. and Sioux City, Iowa experiencing weak shaking.

SPENCER, Neb.–(KOLN/KGIN-TV June 4)–Two earthquakes were reported at the Nebraska/South Dakota border on Friday. Cards Compete At Boyd County Invite

On April 27th, the Saint Mary's Cardinals competed at the Boyd County Invite in O'Neill. Cardinal medalists for the girls were Emma Otte, sixth in the 100 meter dash with a time of 14.57, Lorissa Reiman, fourth in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:07.84, Faith Williamson, second in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:36.77 and Kaylin Gaughenbaugh, third in the 800 with a time of 2:49.08. Hannah Gleason placed fifth in the mile with a time of 6:59.89. The 4X100 meter relay team of Otte, Joslyn Eby, Hope Williamson and Delaney Wohlert placed fourth with a time of 57.62 and the 4X400 meter relay team of Faith Williamson, Mya Hedstrom, Reiman and Alissa Brabec placed first with a time of 4:31.02. The 4X800 meter relay team of Brabec, Hope Williamson, Reiman and Faith Williamson placed first with a time of 11:08.09.

Lady Cards Down Boyd County

The Lady Cardinals played a couple of close games this past week. On Tuesday, Feb. 9 the Boyd County Spartans came to town. The game started close with the Spartans putting up 11 points in the first and the Cards right behind with 10 points. the second quarter the Cards only managed an additional five points while the Spartans could only muster up seven additional points. At the half, the Cards trailed 15-18. The Cards played catch up in the third when they put up two more points than the Spartans and took the lead in the fourth with three more points than the Spartans could put on the board. At the buzzer the Cards had the 37-35 win.
