Police still looking for truck driver who fled after causing crash that shut down York County road

The driver who caused a truck crash that shut down Route 30 for four hours Monday is still being sought by Hellam Township Police, according to Officer Barry Mills. Derek Billingsley, 40, of Fredericksburg, Virginia, was identified as the driver after witnesses participated in a photo lineup Tuesday. Police suspect he was under the influence at the time of the crash, which occurred at 12:09 p.m. Monday between the Hallam and Wrightsville exits, Mills said.

Spotsylvania supervisors approve new cigarette tax

Smoking is about to get more expensive in Spotsylvania County. The Spotsylvania Board of Supervisors approved an ordinance Tuesday that establishes a new tax that will add 30 cents to the cost of a 20-cigarette pack. The county anticipates collecting $310,000 annually in revenue from the tax, which was included in the fiscal 2022 budget approved earlier this year by the board.

Fredericksburg Police looking for man in Monday stabbing. Fredericksburg Police is attempting to locate 42 year old Jermaine Conway of no fixed address. Conway is wanted on a felony charge of aggravated malicious wounding for the stabbing that occurred on June 21st in the 100 block of Wellington Lakes Drive. He is considered armed and dangerous.

VDOT says refurbished Chatham Bridge on track to reopen in fall

The Chatham Bridge has been closed for a year now and will remain shuttered through the summer.
