Local activists, officials protest new redistricting maps

The Rev. Willie Perryman knocked on the door of the Ohio Attorney General’s Toledo office in One Government Center with no reply Monday morning. Shortly after, the president of the Toledo chapter of the NAACP told a group of people with him the office was empty for remodeling, and he had been in touch with a representative by phone to schedule a meeting instead. The group briefly chanted “Knock on the door!” before leaving.

Swanton BOE approves Bahamas trip

The Swanton Board of Education heard information on a roofing project and approved a student trip to the Bahamas at their meeting Wednesday. The roof project took place at the high school earlier this month. Workers made repairs to damaged areas of the roof and installed new roof decking and a waterproof membrane over about a two-week period.

160 acres near Bettsville to become nature area

A 160-acre section of land around Wolf Creek west of Bettsville is to be restored as a nature area. The project, led by Black Swamp Conservancy, is funded by a $2,767,500 grant from the state's H2Ohio program, said Christina Kuchle, Northwest Region Scenic River manager with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Natural Areas and Preserves. The money is to cover land purchase and restoration work.
