Registered sex offender faces new charge involving 12-year-old

TEXARKANA, Texas — A man required to register as a sex offender since 2006 was arrested last week for alleged sexual misconduct with a 12-year-old boy. Jason Pierre Banks, 41, is accused of repeatedly sodomizing the boy, filming him as he showered and showing him pornography, according to a probable cause affidavit on file in Bowie County. Banks is related to the boy by marriage.

Man Secretly Filmed Teen Girl

Bowie County charged a Hooks man accused of secretly filming a teen girl while she showered with aggravated sexual assault of a child. Cody Austin Wright, 34, is in the Bowie County jail on the charge with bail set at $250,000. The alleged victim, now 14, is a relative of Wright’s and claimed he began sexually abusing her when she was about 9, according to a probable cause affidavit. The girl allegedly made an outcry of abuse to her mother on June 1. The girl provided an account to a forensic interviewer. She said she believes Wright put something in her ice cream or in a drink on different occasions to make her sleep and described waking up at Wright’s home with the belief that he sexually assaulted her.

Bonnie Faye Hester, age "plenty-nine", of Texarkana, Texas, died Thursday, June 10, 2021, in a local hospital. Mrs. Hester was born April 1, 1927, Bowie County, Texas, to Emmett and Sirena Clemons. She was a retired elementary school teacher and a faithful member of First Baptist Church Texarkana. Bonnie absolutely loved to travel and was always ready to go on a trip. She had traveled all fifty states and abroad to Australia, England, and Italy to name a few. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Ralph Hester; and her seven siblings, Vera Dodd, Lois Hilton, Jack Clemons, BT Clemons, Travis Clemons, Lorene Cox, and Roland Clemons. She is survived by her loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and many other generations of loved ones who loved her. Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM Tuesday, June 15, 2021, at Chapelwood Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Texarkana, Arkansas. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 PM Monday at the funeral home.

Deadly crash reported on I-30 in Bowie Co.

BOWIE COUNTY, Texas (KSLA) - Emergency crews in east Texas responded to a deadly wreck Tuesday (June 8) morning. According to the sheriff’s office, the crash happened on I-30 near Hooks. Backups from the wreck were reported on I-30 from Leary Road to Main Street. The crash happened not far from the Red River Army Depot exit.

Convenience store rampage suspect pleads not guilty to seven felonies

TEXARKANA, Texas — A man accused of creating mayhem in a local convenience store earlier this year pleaded not guilty to seven felonies this week in Bowie County. Ashley Neal McClanahan, 40, appeared before 202nd District Judge John Tidwell for arraignment at the Bi-State Justice Building. Assistant Public Defender Clayton Haas entered pleas of not guilty on McClanahan's behalf to charges of aggravated robbery, three counts of assault on a public servant, two counts of harassment of a public servant and criminal mischief with damage between $2,500 and $30,000.
