Trelawny J. “T.J.” Bruce, age 78, of Orofino, Idaho, entered the gates of Heaven on Sunday, May 23, 2021. T.J. battled Parkinson’s Disease for five years, bladder cancer this past year, and was recently diagnosed with a rare untreatable syndrome. T.J. was surrounded by family and friends during the 10 days leading up to his departure from Earth at the Clearwater Valley Hospital.

Idaho Youth ChalleNGe cadets help with donated Potlatch bunk house

Deak Wynn recently donated an old Potlatch bunk house that was located near his shop at Pierce to the Clearwater Historical Museum. Man power was needed to remove and clean old equipment parts out of the bunk house. Ken Pratt and Greg Bonner at the Idaho Youth ChalleNGe Academy at Pierce, along with 10 cadets, were eager to help with the project.

Motorcycle versus deer crash results in injury

On June 9, at approximately 8:29 p.m., Idaho State Police Troopers responded to an injury motorcycle crash, eastbound on U.S. 12, near milepost 35. Theodore Mills, 59, of Orofino, had been traveling eastbound when he was unable to avoid a deer and struck it, causing him to be thrown from the motorcycle. Mills was not wearing a helmet but only sustained minor injuries. Mills was transported to Clearwater Valley Hospital. The crash is under investigation by the Idaho State Police. They were assisted by Clearwater County Sheriff’s Office and Clearwater EMS.

Orofino Elementary School Community Garden is revived

In 2015, then Principal of Orofino Elementary School (OES), Shelley Brooks, had a vision for, and implemented, the student garden. Through donated funds from locals a drip irrigation system was installed, a deer proof fence was built, along with 18 4’ x 8’ raised beds and a small greenhouse. The greenhouse blew down but the beds lived on to supply students and food banks with needed nutrition, providing hands on learning for the students as well.

Karla Anne David, of Lewiston, died Tuesday, June 15, 2021, at Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane. She was 69. Karla was born Feb. 11, 1952, in Colfax to William and Emma Bailey Ringer. She graduated from Moscow High School in 1970. She married Ron David in Coeur d’Alene in 1980. Karla enjoyed reading, gardening, her dog “Louie” and trips to the casino.
