Speed limit could slow on Union's Progress Parkway

Drivers on Progress Parkway in southeastern Union could notice some changes. Members of the city’s Parks, Buildings, Development and Public Service Committee voted unanimously June 21 to lower the speed limit to 30 mph from the current 40 mph. Donors give $14K to family of Villa Ridge man killed in I-44 crash

Over $14,000 has been raised to assist the family of 21-year-old Noah Goodwin, of Villa Ridge, who died June 22 after being struck by a trailer-tractor on Interstate 44. Goodwin had stopped his motorcycle to assist his father, who was in his own pick-up truck, when a tractor-trailer hit him, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol. He was pronounced dead on the scene. Noah’s father also sustained injuries and was taken to Mercy Hospital St. Louis.

Cuba man attacks woman at river access

A convicted criminal with a previous history of violence attacked a woman attempting to fish at a local river access point after he tried to steal her truck. As a result of the June 13 incident, Michael Everett Uhl, born in 1986, of Cuba, stands charged with the class E felony assault in the third degree, the class D felony of tampering in the first degree, and the class D felony of assault in the third degree.

William "Bill" Lee Mabe of Steelville was born on Saturday, September 14, 1957 in Cuba, to Richard L. "Step" Mabe, Sr. and Marie Jane Mabe (nee Lancaster). He passed away at Missouri Baptist Hospital in Sullivan on Friday, June 24, 2022 at the age of 64 years, 9 months and 10 days.

Bill was a lifelong resident of Steelville and graduated from Steelville High School in 1976. He was of the Catholic faith and later enjoyed listening to Jerry Beers on Wednesdays at Steelville Senior Living. Bill was a master carpenter and worked for Bob Berenzen Construction in St. Louis and later owned his own business.

(Cuba) A man from Cuba died a few hours after being flown to Mercy Hospital in St. Louis after a pickup truck crash early Monday morning in Crawford County. The Highway Patrol says the accident happened on I-44 eastbound at mile marker 207.8, just west of Cuba when a Ford Ranger driven by 33-year-old Justin Studdard ran off the road, struck an embankment, the truck overturned and came to rest on it’s side.
