Magazine: Vancouver’s Donut Nook has best doughnuts in the state

Seattle may have the Seahawks, Amazon and grunge music, but it doesn’t have the best doughnut shop in Washington — at least according to Food & Wine Magazine. Earlier this year, Food & Wine Magazine listed Vancouver’s Donut Nook as the best place to get doughnuts in Washington. “The day...

This Neighborhood Jewish Deli In Washington Is A True Hidden Gem

While the East Coast is full of authentic Jewish delis, they aren’t quite as abundant here in Washington. When Josh Grunig moved to Seattle in 2012 to work as the night manager for Grand Central Bakery, he eventually decided to change that. These days, Grunig is the owner and baker of Zylberschtein’s Delicatessen & Bakery, […] The post This Neighborhood Jewish Deli In Washington Is A True Hidden Gem appeared first on Only In Your State.

Cocktails That Glitter and Shine

In a town defined by craft beer and breweries, Snowy River Cocktail Co. is mixing things up with Instagram-worthy, luxury cocktails. Snowy River Cocktail Co. started as an online cocktail decorating brand, selling cocktail glitters, flavoring, and sugar/salt rimmers. Wanting customers to experience their products first-hand, the company opened a bar in Seattle in April of 2020. A second location opened last September in downtown Bellingham, right next to Mount Baker Theatre.

A Brief History of Jojos, Which Are from the Pacific Northwest and Not the Midwest, Okay?!

When I was in high school, after class, we’d go to this dark, dusty mini-mart next door that had spooky things like one whole chicken in a can and also a fryer case featuring jojos. They were like 50 cents a pound in 1994, and when you’re a teenager, you can inhale them endlessly, without a single synapse firing in between them, which is what we did. Get a two-pound bag and start crammin'. Steamed potato filling up your sinuses. That store’s long gone, but it had the greatest jojos I’ve tasted before or since.

Amazon opens its largest-yet cashierless grocery

Amazon’s long-awaited Fresh grocery store in Bellevue, Wash., opened Thursday to crowds — and a twist. The company revealed in a surprise announcement earlier this week that the store is the company’s first full-size Fresh grocery equipped with cashierless technology, powered by a vast array of motion-aware ceiling cameras and sensors that track which items are removed from shelves and then automatically bill customers’ Amazon accounts when they leave.

EAT LOCAL! No, no the restaurant - not the concept.

Although I do support eating local, this is an awesome restaurant you shouldn't miss out on! As your wandering through South Lake Union, Local is a must do. This place prides themselves in awesome food, drinks, and atmosphere. The locations are conveniently placed in neighborhoods the founder loves! They have locations in all over Canada (Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Toronto, and Ottawa) and one awesome location here in Seattle.

Dough Zone – Cravings got me some Dan Dan Noodles!

My daughter and I loved the Dough Zone Dumpling House. It was recommended to us by her school teacher. He described it as amazing and he was right. The menus are similar to notepads where you make a check next to the items that you want. We ordered pork xiao long bao and Dan Dan noodles. The noodles look like the same noodles as the Dan Dan but cooked more Al dente/chewy so I liked it more. The Dan Dan noodles here have a bit of peanut flavor and a lot of that Szechuan numbing spice flavor. Thought I'd note that since every place always makes it differently. The pork xiao long bao taste unbelievably delicious - it's smaller than expected . It is pretty juicy though. We quickly devoured all ten within minutes. Service is usually better, but they appeared to be operating short handed so understandable. They serve in small portions which kinda is disappointing, but apart from that the food is absolutely yum!

Deep Sea Sugar & Salt is without a doubt the best cake I've ever had.

Charlie Dunmire started Deep Sea Sugar and Salt by selling slices of her insanely scrumptious cake out of a trailer, at the Georgetown Trailer Park. For those of you not familiar; the Georgetown Trailer Park is tiny flea market, open on the weekends. She has since opened up the cutest little cake shop down in Georgetown. To say there is always a line out the door on the weekends, is the absolute truth.

More outdoor dining options in Seattle, QR code menus — here are 8 food legacies from the pandemic that will stick around

The food industry was significantly affected by the pandemic, as restaurants had to get creative in order to operate while complying with COVID-19 health and safety measures. The upcoming restaurant reopening plan is supposed to mark the return to the way dining used to be during the Stone Age of pre-pandemic times. But some pandemic relics won’t end — partly for the better, partly out of necessity due to the labor shortage.

What and where you should be drinking this weekend (June 18-20)

It’s happening. Our calendar of Washington Beer Events is starting to show signs of life as the world gets back to something resembling normal. This post may become a regular thing. Basically, a weekly wrap of what new brews are out there and what beer events capture my interest. This is not intended to be comprehensive. Just one guy’s opinion based on what one guy knows.
