Roof collapses in fire at vacant commercial building in Gary, Indiana

CHICAGO (CBS) -- The roof of a vacant commercial building collapsed Thursday morning in Gary, Indiana, as firefighters responded to a fire.The Gary Fire Department said the fire started at 10:20 a.m. at 3820 Broadway.No one was injured during the fire, but the roof of the building collapsed.No other buildings were damaged.Fire crews were still on the scene early Thursday afternoon chasing hotspots.The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Docs: Police arrest brother for killing sister while her kids at home

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A 30-year-old man was arrested after the shooting death of his 37-year-old sister Wednesday night at a home on the far southwest side of Indianapolis. Krystopher Monroe, of Gary, was listed Thursday afternoon as an inmate in the Marion County jail on a preliminary charge of murder. State Patrol investigates semi rollover crash on I-75

A semi crash on I-75 closed the southbound lanes for approximately two hours this morning. The crash happened just after 5:30AM on I-75 southbound just before the Bluelick Road exit. The Lima Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol says Kasey Moore of Michigan City, IN was operating the southbound semi when she went off the right side of the roadway, overcorrected, and then overturned. Two steel coils that the truck was hauling dislodged into the highway during the crash.

Firefighters Battle Fire in Downtown Knox

Firefighters from 13 fire departments responded to a fire at 18 S. Main Street in Knox Thursday morning. A Knox City Police Department officer reportedly spotted smoke coming from the front of the building that housed Vorpal Gaming at 18 S. Main Street shortly after 8:30 a.m. CT. Knox-Center Township Fire Chief Kenny Pfost said he was on his way to the fire station and drove past the scene where he initially saw heavy brown smoke coming from the front of the building. When he came back with the first responding engine, he told WKVI News that flames were showing through the Main Street side window. As the fire grew, more departments were asked to respond.
