REED CITY – Bryce Wein was swinging a strong bat all season for the Reed City Coyotes, and it paid off nicely for a team that won conference and district titles. It was his senior season and he came up with some huge hits for the Coyotes. But he indicated it was not his best baseball season compared to his junior campaign.

Hentschel’s Eligibility Challenged In County Commission Race Over Residency Questions

Two Grand Traverse County commission candidates – Republican Carol Crawford and Democrat Bruce Moore – have filed paperwork in East Bay Township challenging the eligibility of fellow District 5 candidate and current Commission Chair Rob Hentschel to run in this fall’s election. Crawford and Moore argue that Hentschel is not qualified to vote in District 5 – and thus is ineligible to run – because his listed address is not his true principal residence. Hentschel had not initially seen the challenge paperwork, but notes he filed his "election paperwork in good faith."

Looking Back for July 2: Flag bandit reported in Stronach Township, second year in a row

Some unpatriotic vandals struck at the Stronach Township Park late last week, stealing the large 12-foot by 20-foot American flag off the flagpole. It is the second straight year that a large flag has been stolen just before Independence Day from the park. Township officials are furious about the theft and have taken steps to see that those responsible are brought to justice.

Looking Back for July 1: Flea Roast and Ox Market bring thousands to Irons

The ever popular Flea Roast and Ox Market at Skinner Park in Irons produced between 35,000 to 40,000 people during its four-day stint. Approximately 69 vendors supplied a wide array of items to the public, from sand art and necklaces to baskets and ratchet sets. There were a dozen or so concession stands selling fair favorites like elephant ears, cotton candy and Polish sausages.
