Ruth Cain Beaman, of Adel, was born in Madrid, IA, at her grandparents’ home on January 16, 1932, and died on June 29, 2022. Her parents, Floyd and Gladys Cain, moved to a farm south of Adel in Dallas County. All of her education came at the De Soto School, where sisters, Marabel Kersey, Frances Leonard, Shirley Baker, and brother, Arthur Cain, went also. Ruth married her high school sweetheart, on June 25, 1950, at her parents’ farm home. Russell Beaman came to De Soto High School from southwest of De Soto. They bought the secondhome ever built in Earlham on Maple Street. She worked at the bank there, and Russ worked at Hunter Motors. During the next ten years, they had their four children in Earlham. Carol Jean was born in 1951, Harold Dean in 1952, Kathleen Ann in 1957, and Christine Joan in 1959. Russ soon was working at KDPS, then IPTV. They both had amateur radio licenses, KOENA and KOAON, which they used to connect servicemen to home in the Korean War.

DES MOINES, Iowa — Des Moines police investigated a car versus bicycle crash on Thursday. The crash occurred along Southeast Fifth Street between Porter and Kenyon avenues. Southeast Fifth Street was temporarily closed, but has reopened.

Iowa picked up a commitment from a 5-star OT out of the 2023 class on Thursday. Kadyn Proctor from Southeast Polk High School in Des Moines, Iowa decided to stay in-state. Proctor is listed as a 5-star OT per the 247Sports Composite. He chose the Hawkeyes over Alabama, Georgia, Notre Dame, Penn State, Oregon, and Michigan. Proctor is the No. 2 OT, and the No. 1 recruit from Iowa in the 2023 class. This commitment is Iowa’s 1st 5-star commit. The Hawkeyes now have the No. 15 overall and No. 4 class in the B1G.

DES MOINES, Iowa — Construction crews will begin resurfacing work in West Des Moines, Iowa on Wednesday, July 6. The family of a Marion boy who died last summer on an Adventureland ride has now filed a lawsuit against the Altoona park. Michael Jaramillo, 11, died after a raft on the Raging River ride flipped over, trapping him under the water. He died from his injuries while his brother David Jaramillo Jr. suffered serious injuries but did survive.
