Greenville Public Works Food Drive Underway

With this week being National Public Works Week, the Greenville Public Works Department is conducting its annual food drive to benefit the Bond County Food Pantry. Donations can be dropped off at the Greenville Municipal Building or the Greenville Police Department. In addition, Public Works employees will be at Capri IGA and Dollar General on Friday, May 20 from noon to 3 p.m. to accept donations.

Unit Two Board Meets Wednesday

The regular May meeting of the Bond County Community Unit 2 Board of Education is Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the high school library. Early in the meeting, the board will go into closed session to discuss personnel. It is expected that upon returning to open session, the board will approve several hirings.

Catalytic Converter Thefts

Police throughout the nation have their hands full trying to apprehend catalytic converter thieves. That includes agencies in the WGEL area. Greenville Chief of Police Stefan Neece told WGEL there have recently been multiple thefts of catalytic converters from vehicles. They have included one from a Bond County Transit vehicle that was sitting outside of the fenced-in building, and Bond County Unit 2 buses.

City Police Make Arrest

Food Drive

This is National Public Works Week and to mark the occasion, Greenville Public Works is holding its annual food drive to benefit the Bond County Food Pantry. Donations may be dropped off at the Greenville Municipal Building or the Greenville Police Department. Ameren Illinois is hosting a storm preparedness program at the Bond County Senior Center in Greenville Tuesday, May 24 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Diamond Jackson will talk about creating a storm preparedness bag, what to do if the power goes out during a storm, and what to do if you come across downed electric lines on the road.

Early Voting For Primary Begins Soon

With the Illinois primary election set for Tuesday, June 28, early voting will begin soon. Bond County Clerk Meg Sybert said those wishing to vote early can visit her office. Early voting will start on May 19. She said when you vote early, the ballot will be sealed in a vote-by-mail envelope, which she will hang onto. If the ballot does not change, you don’t need to take any additional action. If the ballot changes, Sybert will contact you and you can decide if you want to vote again.

County Board Sets Salaries For Office Holders

At a recent meeting, the Bond County Board set salaries for two positions to be elected this year. By a vote of 3-2, a motion was approved to give the newly elected treasurer and county clerk a pay raise of $1,500 per year for 2023 and 2024, and $750 per year for 2025 and 2026.

Jury Duty Cancelled For May 16

Bond County Circuit Clerk Randi Workman has announced that jury duty has been canceled in Bond County Circuit Court on Monday, May 16. Again, jurors do not need to report for duty on Monday, May 16.

South Central FFA members competed at Section 19

South Central FFA members recently competed at the Section 19 Dairy Cattle Evaluation Career Development Event. The section contest was held at the Bond County Fairgrounds on March 30th. The team consisted of 11 members. Kayley Lacey placed 2nd individually in the section. The team as one placed 2nd as well.
