Oscar “Ricky Lynn” Buxton, age 72 of Starks, Louisiana, passed away at his home on Tuesday, June 28, 2022. A memorial service to honor his life will be held at 6:00 PM on Wednesday, July 6, 2022 at Dorman Funeral Home with Rev. Jeremy Shields officiating. Family and friends will gather for a visitation from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM on Wednesday, July 6, 2022 at Dorman Funeral Home.

New Belle Jim owners cut the ribbon to begin a new era

The new owners of Jasper’s historic Belle Jim Hotel have set up shop and on Friday they cut the ribbon to officially begin a new era of the 122-year-old landmark on the northeast corner of the Courthouse Square. The Jasper-Lake Sam Rayburn Area Chamber of Commerce and others gathered on Friday for the ribbon cutting ceremony with new owners, Ed and Sujey Guizar.

George Lester Tudmon

Mr. George Lester Tudmon was born to the late Mr. Lincoln Tudmon Sr. and Mrs. Pearl Larkin Tudmon on June 13, 1948 in Jasper, Texas. He received Christ at an early age. On June 28, 2022, George was visited by the angel of death and entered into eternal rest. His father, mother, brother, Lincoln Tudmon Jr., Sisters Mary Lee Cox, Hattie Lee Smith, Geneva Scott, and Ernestine Smith, all preceded him in death.

Two arrested after traffic stop nets drugs and stolen weapon

The Jasper County Sheriff’s Department says an early Wednesday morning traffic stop resulted in two arrests after deputies found drugs and a stolen weapon. The department says the traffic stop occurred at about 2:00 a.m. at the intersection of County Roads 725 and 731 near Buna, where deputies found Jake Tyrone Neal, 40, and Jaclyn Connally Cogar, 39, both of Buna, in possession of methamphetamine, marijuana, prescription pills, drug paraphernalia, and a gun that was reported stolen in Orange County.
