Rose Petals and More host ribbon cutting

The Mount Ida Area Chamber of Commerce is excited to welcome Rose Petals and More to the community. They held a ribbon cutting Friday, August 12, at 11 a.m. Rose Petals and More is a one stop shop for gifts and flowers. Business proprietor Brandy Bradford offers a full array of floral services, as well as candy and cookie arrangements.

Mount Ida Booster Club hosting fundraiser

The Mount Ida Lions Booster Club is hosting a fundraiser today, Friday, August 12, at Rose Petals and More located at 138 S. East Street in Mount Ida. They have hamburgers and/or hot dogs, chips, drink and dessert for $10. Supplies are limited so get there as soon as possible.

COSL announces Montgomery County tax auction

(August 1, 2022) LITTLE ROCK, Ark – Commissioner of State Lands Tommy Land announced that his office will auction tax-delinquent property in Montgomery County on Wednesday, August 17, at 1 p.m. The auction will be held at the Montgomery County Criminal Justice Complex – new courtroom in Mt. Ida, with registration beginning at 12:30 p.m.

Mount Ida School Board discusses test scores

MOUNT IDA – A decline in test scores was among the topics discussed at the most recent Mount Ida School Board meeting. A drop in test scores was mentioned several times throughout the meeting with Superintendent Tristan Knoedl addressing the topic near the end of the meeting. While no numbers were officially available at the time of the meeting, everyone acknowledged that the drop in ACT Aspire Test scores was a point of concern.

Polk County Extension Office offers ServSafe Manager Course

ServSafe has been the industry standard since 1919 in training millions of people how to receive, store, prepare, and serve food safely. Through the Cooperative Extension Service, we offer training and certifications for the ServSafe Food Handler, ServSafe Manager, and ServSafe Instructor & Proctor programs. The Arkansas Department of Health is now requiring each food service facility to have at least one supervisory employee who has Certified Food Manager training.

MOUNT IDA – Soon Montgomery County couples can “court” the old fashioned way by riding the Owley Courting Swing now located at The Heritage House Museum in Mount Ida. The Owley Courting Swing hearkens back to a slower time when community gatherings were attended by practically everyone in the county. The swing provided a whimsical distraction to the harsher days on the farm, or at the lumber mill.

Parade kicks off 95th annual Montgomery County Fair

MOUNT IDA – The Montgomery County Fair kicks off Monday, August 8, at 7 p.m. with a parade, followed by the pageant and talent show Tuesday, August 9. The 95th edition of the county fair will be held August 7 through 13 at the Montgomery County Fairgrounds. This year’s theme is “Sew it, Grow, Show it.”

Norman boil order lifted, Mount Ida, Oden continues

The City of Norman has announced that the precautionary boil order for the Norman Waterworks customers has been lifted. Norman Waterworks was placed under a precautionary boil order Sunday, July 24, after a main water line broke. Due to a drop in water pressure the water system was placed under a precautionary boil order.

Mena School Board convened for July

The Mena School Board recently held their July meeting at the district administration building. Dr. Lee Smith began the meeting with his superintendent’s report. He informed the board that bids are being accepted for the construction of outdoor pavilions at each campus and he anticipates that construction will begin in August or early September.
