Man killed in Brooklyn fire

NEW YORK -- A man in his 50s is dead following a fire in Brooklyn. The flames broke out around 10 p.m. Monday at a building on Brighton 5th Street in Brighton Beach. Investigators said the victim was found in the basement and was believed to be subletting the apartment. He was taken to Coney Island Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. There's no word on what caused the fire.

Two found dead in burning car near Bronx golf course: cops

Two people were found dead in a burning car near a Bronx golf course early Monday, authorities said.  Police and fire officials responded around 4:15 a.m. to Shore Road near the Pelham Split Rock Course — where they discovered a Honda Accord on the side of the road engulfed in flames, authorities said.  First responders discovered the bodies — whose age and gender were not immediately known — in the driver’s seat and the front passenger seat, cops said.  Both were pronounced dead on scene by EMS. The fire broke out in a desolate area, and there did not appear to be any collision involved, police said.  The circumstances remain under investigation, and the city medical examiner will determine the victims’ cause of death.

Man fatally struck by Mercedes-Benz in Brooklyn

A pedestrian was struck and killed by a car while trying to cross a busy roadway in Brooklyn on Monday night, according to police. The man, who has not been identified, was hit by a 2014 Mercedes-Benz GL 550 while trying to get across Eastern Parkway around 9 p.m. when he was hit near Franklin Avenue, police said. Police said the man, who was believed to be in his mid-40s, struck his head on the pavement after being hit and was immediately rushed to Kings County Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The driver of the vehicle, a 41-year-old woman, remained at the scene. Police have not filed any charges against her. Police are still working on identifying the victim.
