Police identify man accused of evading arrest in multi-city pursuit

Law enforcement on Wednesday identified the name and charges of a man who allegedly led police on a chase Tuesday down Alcoa Highway. Randall Eugene Seaton, 59, Greeneville, was arrested by Blount County Sheriff’s deputies at 7:48 p.m. June 9 and charged with felony evading arrest, two counts of reckless endangerment, driving on a revoked license and theft between $2,500 and $10,000.

Blount Co. nonprofit hopes to collect 120 backpacks for students in need before start of school

BLOUNT COUNTY, Tenn. — The Blount County community will have a chance to help students in need over the summer, just by dropping off a bookbag. The Boys and Girls Club of Blount County is hosting a backpack drive to prepare students for school once the summer is over. Many of the families they serve may not be able to afford school supplies for the coming school year. Organizers are hoping to gather 120 backpacks for students preparing to return to class.

Walland man arrested after allegedly driving over mailbox, flower bed while intoxicated

A Walland man was booked into the Blount County jail on Wednesday after he allegedly drove over a Jackson Hills Drive mailbox and flower bed while intoxicated. Jeremy Lynn Murrell, 43, Cold Springs Road, was arrested by Blount County Sheriff’s deputies at 5:10 p.m. June 9 and charged with driving under the influence. He was being held on a $5,000 bond pending a 1:30 p.m. hearing June 14 in Blount County General Sessions Court.

Maryville man arrested, charged with rape

A Maryville man was booked into the Blount County jail on Tuesday after he allegedly raped a woman. Jose Delarosa Silver, 24, Bridgeway Drive, Maryville, was arrested by Blount County Sheriff’s deputies at 8:35 a.m. June 8 and charged with rape. He was released on a $50,000 bond pending a 9 a.m. hearing June 15 in Blount County General Sessions Court.

Blount County Schools will start the new school year on a staggered schedule, with only half the students from grades 1-12 on campus the first four days. Under the plan the Blount County Board of Education adopted last week, students whose last names begin with A-K will be in school Aug. 2 and 4, and those with last names starting with L-Z will attend Aug. 3 and 5.
