'The Big Guy' helps clear the way for Metamora's big win over Dunlap

METAMORA — Ben Wallace celebrated the next step on his football journey earlier in the week with a college offer, then helped clear a path to victory Friday for Metamora. The 6-foot-4, 300-pound offensive left tackle, known since second grade as "The Big Guy", led a line that blew open holes for quarterback Connor Willerton and running back Ethan Petri on the way to a 45-14 victory over Dunlap in a key Mid-Illini Conference game at Malone Field.

High school sharpshooters turned in a pair of holes-in-one last week — continuing an amazing run of aces in Peoria-area high school golf. Morton senior Bailey Strode notched a hole-in-one Friday on the par-3, 174-yard No. 4 at Lick Creek in Pekin on the opening day of the Dragon Classic.

Alex N. Rinehart, 70, of Washington, passed away on Saturday, September 18, 2021, at the Medical Center of Aurora, in Aurora, CO. On August 3, 1951, Alex was born in Lincoln to Thomas William “Bill” Rinehart and Ruth (Bridgewater) Rinehart. Alex was married to the love of his life, Nancy (Kawolsky) Rinehart, on June 17, 1972, in East Peoria. They were married for just over 49 years, and Nancy survives him.
