Sept. 23, 1921: A fire gutted the Bloomington Rug Co. factory at Franklin Avenue and Division Street. Faulty wiring is thought to be the cause, aided by a gas explosion. The firemen put up a good fight, but most of the stock was ruined by fire, smoke and water. Tim Hayden is the owner.

Farm animals run rampant on I-55 after semi-truck rollover

NORMAL, Ill. (WMBD) — Farm animals ran rampant Sunday morning as the semi-truck they were travelling in rolled over on Interstate 55 around 7:30 a.m. The Normal Fire Department responded to the call at milepost 162 where goats and sheep were running up and down the interstate, medians, and ditches.

44-year-old Morton man identified as victim in fatal crash between vehicle and combine

A 44-year-old Morton man died in Tazewell County when his vehicle crashed into a combine and caught fire, the coroner said Friday. Craig Chione was traveling west in the 1000 block of East Queenwood Road in Morton on Wednesday night when witnesses say he appeared to lose control of his vehicle, striking a combine traveling east, Coroner Charles Hanley said in a news release.

Craig Chione, 44, of Morton, was identified and pronounced deceased at 10:24 p.m. Wednesday. Preliminary autopsy findings showed the cause of death was complications due to thermal injuries.

Coroner Charles Hanley said 44-year-old Craig Chione died at 10:24 p.m. Chione was traveling westbound on Queenwood Road when he lost control of his vehicle and struck a moving combine that was traveling eastbound.
