Malone resident competes in Tupper Lake Tinman Triathlon

TUPPER LAKE — Just under 400 people on Saturday participated in the Tupper Lake Tinman Triathelon — as 137 women and 259 men tested their abilities in the half-Ironman. Of the 396 participants, Malone’s Dave Schanck was a local finisher. The Franklin County resident placed 177th amongst male competition and ranked 264th overall on the day.

CATS launches new trail

LEWIS | The public is invited to join Champlain Area Trails (CATS) at 9 a.m. Saturday, June 18, as it launches West Valley Trail, the 43rd addition to its trail system. Bringing the CATS trail system to just over 70 miles, this 3.5-mile walk meanders through diverse forest communities, crossing a gentle woodland stream before reaching a scenic overlook with views of the area known as the "twin valleys." The trail follows an old logging road with a fairly easy climb to the overlook.
