There’s no benefit to holding back athletes

In response to the article about 8th graders playing up into high school sports, I learned through that article that there is a general misunderstanding of the actual MHSA policy ranging from board members to community members. I took the time to look up the policy & even spoke with an MHSA Chairman. The largest misconception is if the Board agrees to this policy, that ALL 8th graders would have to participate in high school sports. That is simply untrue. This policy is for the rare instance where an individual is leaps and bounds ahead of their peers in their sport and would allow that athlete to CHOOSE to move up, by Coach recommendation, so they can continue to grow & develop witin their chosen sport.
