Bombers hot start to tourney marred by ugly incident

WESTFIELD – The Westfield High School baseball team’s tournament opener got off to a fast start Friday night with some pop and an unfortunate circumstance. Westfield’s David Tirrell homered and drove in three runs and pitcher Josh Mayo struck out nine batters over five innings before the game was suspended due to a small pack of unruly fans. The game will resume Saturday morning at 11 with the Bombers leading 4-0 over Chicopee Comp. Spectators will not be allowed to attend.
