Man who fatally shot sheriff may remain institutionalized for life

HUNTINGTON — The man accused of fatally shooting a Mingo County sheriff while he ate lunch in his car may spend the rest of his life in a mental facility. That is according to the Kanawha County Prosecutor’s Office, which is the special counsel in the case of Tennis Maynard. Prosecutor Don Morris handled the case in a Cabell County courtroom June 8.

Woman sues Dollar General for injuries

PINEVILLE — An Oceana woman is suing Dollar General after she was injured while in one of its stores in 2019. Council approves $11,000 to install new roof on Man Town Hall

MAN — The Man Town Council approved a request by Mayor Jim Blevins to have a new roof put on the town hall building for $11,000. Blevins made the request during a budget discussion with town accountant Jeff Vallet during the council’s regular session Monday, June 14. Blevins said the building has not had a new roof installed in at least three decades, and several rooms — including the council’s meeting room and his office — are leaking in spots as a result.

Commission presents levy checks to fire departments

The Logan County Commission presented the county’s fire departments with their annual $20,000 checks from the fire and ambulance levy funds, which voters reapproved again last year. Representatives from Logan County Station #2 in Man, Lake VFD, Cora VFD, Chapmanville VFD and Henlawson VFD were in attendance.
