(WHBL) – Republicans at the Wisconsin Capitol have taken the first step toward their tough-on-crime package. The State Assembly on Tuesday approved a series of plans that would support law enforcement and create new punishments. One of those plans would require at least 30 days in jail for anyone who knowingly attends a riot that ends with damage. Anyone who participates in the riot would be looking at 45 days in jail.

The Wisconsin State Patrol said the three were in a vehicle that struck a semi that was attempting to turn into a Kwik Trip parking lot off Interstate 94 near Black River Falls Saturday about 1 a.m. The vehicle was heading west on Hwy. 54 and struck the semi.

Three Dead After Car Crashes Into Semi Trailer in Black River Falls

Three people are dead after a crash in Jackson County early Saturday (1/22) morning. The Wisconsin State Patrol reports that just after 1:30 in the morning Saturday they and the Black River Falls Police Department responded to a car versus semi crash on Highway 54 near Andrews Road. The initial investigation indicates that the semi was leaving a parking lot attempting to cross Highway 54 into the Kwik Trip parking lot. As it was crossing the highway, a vehicle with three occupants was westbound on Highway 54 and struck the semi trailer. The occupants of the vehicle were identified as 34-year-old Leonard Hopinka and 36-year-old Tyler Decorah, both of Black River Falls, and 35-year-old Jordan Vidana of Onalaska. All three were pronounced dead upon arrival on the scene. The Wisconsin State Patrol reports that none of the occupants of the car were wearing their seatbelts. The crash is still under investigation.
