Carefree mayoral candidate sets the record straight

Peter Sample responds to inaccurate claims in a letter to the editor published June 15th. For the benefit of the residents of Carefree, and especially those who will vote in our upcoming election, I would like to set the record straight on a number of points. I feel this is necessary because a certain individual – who insists on hiding behind anonymity – has made several false statements in a recent letter to this publication. We all know that secrecy and anonymity are the enemies of truth and openness.

Why Experience Matters

We have not had such a large field running for Town government in recent memory. There are 11 people running for six Council seats and two people running for Mayor. Of the 13 candidates asking for your votes, seven are incumbents or have served on Town committees. The remaining six are newcomers calling for change. They are not only saying it is time for change, but that the experienced people who have been running the Town have made a mess of things and need to be replaced.

Program offers new way to support Anthem Veterans Memorial

The Anthem Way Foundation is implementing a new legacy giving program for those who want to continue supporting the Anthem Veterans Memorial after they have died. Elizabeth Turner, Anthem Veterans Memorial programming director, said while there has always been multiple ways to donate to the memorial, there has never been a program that allowed people to continue to support the programs by leaving the memorial in their estate plans and will. Letters to the Editor

My name is Mike Johnson, and I was appointed to the Carefree Town Council in September 2021 to fill a vacant council seat. My wife and I have had a home in Carefree since 2005 and became permanent residents during 2013. Before that time, I had been involved with the town on several projects; the development of the northeast corner of Carefree Highway and Cave Creek Road, traffic safety issues and bringing Carefree Water to west Carefree residents.
