Mineral commission approves purchase changes, precinct consolidation

KEYSER, W.Va. — The Mineral County commissioners voted to make several different operational changes during their meeting Tuesday. The commission voted unanimously for the consolidation of the county’s third and eighth voting precincts. Beginning with the next primary election in May 2022, voters from Cross will vote in Elk Garden. The commission began the consolidation process in April.

Storms prompt water rescue near New Creek

NEW CREEK, W.Va. — A flood watch remained in effect Friday, a day after thunderstorms prompted a water rescue in the southern end of Mineral County. A line of thunderstorms that dumped more than 2 inches of rain just before 8 p.m. Thursday forced New Creek out of its banks along U.S. Route 50 and state Route 93.

Preston County man charged with strangulation, allegedly threatens to kill woman

TUNNELTON, W.Va (WDTV) - A Tunnelton man was arrested after a woman called Preston County 911 saying that he was going to kill her. 57-year-old John Joseph Greaser allegedly hit the woman multiple times and punched her in the back of the head. The woman said she locked the door and tried to call 911 when Greaser stepped outside. Greaser kicked in the door, took the phone and put his elbow in the woman’s neck until she couldn’t breathe, according to the criminal complaint.

Kingwood Transfer Station robbed

KINGWOOD — The Kingwood Transfer Station was targeted by a thief last week, prompting city officials to buy more security cameras for several city properties. City Supervisor Bruce Pyles said that about 9:15 p.m. June 2, a man driving a dark-colored Jeep entered the garbage transfer station and spent about three hours there. He entered from the rear of the station, which is located on Shower Bath Road, which is not heavily traveled and outside city limits.

State of the County speakers discuss Preston's future

KINGWOOD — More than 20 people discussed Preston County from different points of view at the 2021 State of the County, presented by the Preston County Chamber of Commerce. The event was held Thursday at the Kingwood Community Building. Chamber Board Member Kerry Gnik said the first state of the county, in 2019, led to the creation of a task force that began prioritizing issues in the county and begin tackling them.
