Northern route in and out of Willmar closes Monday

(Willmar MN-) People who drive into or out of Willmar on North 7th Street, which becomes Kandiyohi County Road 41, will be taking a different route for the next few months. The Willmar Public Works Department says beginning today, North 7th will be closed at Park Avenue, which is just south of the Kandiyohi County Fairgrounds, all the way up to County Road 24, which is the turn to go to Ridgewater College. Accommodations will be made for affected residents and businesses in the construction zone, but motorists will be directed around the west and north sides of Foot Lake. The pavement replacement project is expect to take about 2 months.

Kandiyohi County ID’s man who died in grain bin collapse Thursday

The Kandiyohi County Sheriff’s Office has identified the rural Lake Lillian resident who died in a grain bin collapse last Thursday as Ryan Erickson, age 63. On May 12, at about 7 p.m., Kandiyohi County rescue workers were called to a farm site on the 17000 block of 45th St. SE, Lake Lillian, about a missing adult male in the area of where a large grain bin had just blown over by storms in the area.

Ryan L. Erickson, age 63, of rural Blomkest, passed away unexpectedly, Thursday evening, May 12, from injuries received in a weather accident. A celebration of life service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, May 20, at the Refuge Church in Willmar. Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery near Blomkest. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, May 19, at Peterson Brothers Funeral Home and will continue for one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. (Olivia, MN) -- A jury in southwestern Minnesota has found a man guilty of domestic assault. Brian Joseph Gewerth was convicted Thursday in Renville County. Prosecutors say the 42-year-old man from Bird Island pushed the victim down in a hallway a half-dozen times. Gewerth and the victim were arguing because the suspect had failed to pay the rent. Authorities say Gewerth has a history of domestic assault. He will be sentenced in July.
