Weston Gertsch smiles at City of Grant Lifeguard Bella Fraizer after he successfully jumped off of the diving board during swimming lessons at the Grant City Pool on Monday, June 13. It was a perfect day to be in the pool, as temperatures soared to 103 degrees during the day, according to the National Weather Service. There were a total of 26 kids signed up for lessons this week at the pool, with 14 lifeguards assisting. This is the first round of lessons for this summer at the pool. Another round will be held on July 11-15. Registrations are now being taken. Private lessons are also available. For more information, contact the Grant City Pool at 308-352-4217.

Dorothy Mae Reese, 94, of Ogallala, Neb. passed away June 17, 2022, at the Indian Hills Manor in Ogallala. Dorothy was born on March 12, 1928, the daughter of George and Molly (Eckhardt) Frick in Culbertson, Neb. Dorothy grew up and attended school in Culbertson, graduating from Culbertson High School in May 1946.

Stanly F. Dolezal, 92, of Julesburg, Colo., passed away Wednesday, June 8, 2022, at the Sedgwick County Nursing Home in Julesburg. Stanly was born on August 28, 1929, at the family farm north of Venango in Perkins County, Neb. He was the youngest of four children born to Charles A. and Frances Klabenes Dolezal. He graduated from Venango High School with the class of 1946.

Marvin “Sam” Marquardt, 95, of Julesburg, Colo., passed away Tuesday, June 14, 2022, at Regent Park Nursing and Rehabilitation in Holyoke. Sam was born on October 5, 1926, on the family farm south of Julesburg to Fred and Louise (Weiland) Marquardt. He was baptized on October 31, 1926, at his parents home and confirmed on April 6, 1941, at St Paul’s Lutheran Church Venango, Neb.
