William T. “Bud” Lents of Flora, IL passed away Thursday, the 30th of June 2022 in his home, after a long battle with cancer. Bud was born on the 17th of February 1938 in Flora to Frank and Madeline (Gibson) Lents. He graduated from Flora High School. He served our nation in the US Navy for twenty years, obtaining the rank of Chief Petty Officer. In 1976, Bud retired from the Navy and returned with his family to Flora. He quickly found another way to serve, this time his neighbors, as a US Postal Service letter carrier for twenty years.

There will be a TIF Committee meeting Wednesday, July 6th at 6pm at Teutopolis Village Hall at 106 West Main Street in Teutopolis. The Committee will be going over current amounts available in TIF I & II, payment plan to repay the Village, coming up with projections and possible projects to use TIF dollars on.

John Lowell Tanner, 93 of Stewardson, passed away Tuesday, June 28, 2022 at HSHS St. Anthony Memorial Hospital in Effingham. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 18, 2022 at Bauer Funeral Home in Effingham with burial in Stewardson Cemetery, Stewardson, with military rites. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to the time of service, Monday at the funeral home. (OLNEY/NEWTON) A reminder that Illinois state law makes it unlawful for the public, without a proper permit, to explode any display fireworks, flame effects, or consumer fireworks. While the City of Olney and other regional communities receive a large number of complaints about this each year, violators in Olney can be fined not less than $75 and no more than $750 per violation. The use of sparklers, party poppers, and snappers however, are not considered to be consumer fireworks. With the proper permit and training, the Richland County Farm & Fair Association will again this year be setting off a proper display of fireworks Monday night in the Olney City Park. There are several other regional displays scheduled for this holiday weekend.
