James Dykes, 85, Mountain Home (Roller)

Mr. James L. Dykes, 85, passed away Saturday, June 25, 2022 in Mountain Home, Arkansas. He was born on May 18, 1937 in Falls City, Nebraska to Burl and Jessie Dykes. James is survived by one son: Jody (Julie) Dykes of Mountain Home; two daughters: Jami (Doug) Small of Mountain Home and Jill (fiancé Travis Graves) Caruso of Gepp; three grandchildren: Samantha (Cory) McMahon of Mountain Home, Ryan (Jenna) Small of Mountain Home, and Jessi (Hunter) Volner of Pea Ridge; three great grandchildren: Adelynn, Daxtyn, and Emery; two brothers in law: Randall (Carole) Mason and David Helgeson; cousin: Butch (Dobey) Haws; numerous nieces and nephews; and an amazing friend of 67 years: Harold Bates.

Helen Louise Fenwick, 69, Mountain Home (Kirby)

Helen Louise Fenwick of Mountain Home, Arkansas, passed away June 25, 2022, in Mountain Home, Arkansas at the age of 69. She was born August 26, 1952, in Tucumcari, New Mexico, the daughter of James and Sarah Fowler New. Helen was a U.S. Air Force veteran of Vietnam War. She married David on January 25, 1975, in Anson, Texas and was a sheriff’s deputy for the Baxter County Sheriff’s Office. Helen lived in Mountain Home since moving from Anson, Texas.

Missing Mountain Home Teen Found Living in Cave with Kidnapper, Man Arrested with $1,000,000 Bond

Mountain Home, Ar. – A Mountain Home teen has been recovered safe and her kidnapper arrested following a more than 40 day search. A 14-year old girl went missing on Thursday, May 12 around 3 p.m. from the 1300 block of College Street in Mountain Home. Her mother notified police that she did not get on the bus to come home after school and believed she had been picked up by Isaac Melder, age 40 of Yellville, Ar.

Lockeroom pulls off sweep at North Central Arkansas

The Mountain Home Lockeroom American Legion baseball team went to Brockwell on Saturday and pulled off another sweep over North Central Arkansas. After North Central Arkansas scored three runs in the seventh inning to send the first game to an extra inning, the Lockeroom scored seven unanswered runs in the eighth to get the 15-8 win. Carter Graves picked up the victory on the mound. Ike Barrow had a double, a triple and three RBIs.

Hurricanes win another meet at Pocahontas

The Mountain Home Hurricanes swim team was able to win another meet on Saturday. The Hurricanes beat the newly-formed Jonesboro Shark Waves by 23 points at Pocahontas. Ajay Reiss won 100-yard freestyle for ages 13 and 14, Joia Traver won girls’ race for ages 15 to 18, and Asa Norwick won the senior boys’ event.

Big Creek hosting two big tournaments this week, will boost local economy

It’s going to be a busy week at Big Creek Golf & Country Club with a pair of big tournaments. The Arkansas Junior Amateur Championship will be held Tuesday and Wednesday. The USGA Junior Amateur Championship Qualifying Tournament will be played Friday. Both tournaments will feature 70 golfers, meaning with the family joining the players, a big boost to the local economy can be expected.

Boil orders issued for Gainesville, Salesville and system in Izard County; lifted in Gassville, Calico Rock

Three boil orders have been issued for three area water systems and lifted for two other systems. A boil order was issued Thursday for some water customers in Gainesville due to a main break. The order is for those on the east side of town, from South U.S. Highway 160 starting at the Church of Christ going West to town. The area includes Hillsprings Drive, Turner Street, Cozy Home Lane, Plentywood Lane, and Am-Sam Drive.
