Five face drug charges after search warrants served in Matthews

The Standard Democrat reports that five people are facing drug charges after law enforcement officers searched three residences. On May 11, officers served search warrants on Davis Street, Green Street, and Ridgeview Drive. Five people were arrested for possession of meth. Assisting the Matthews Police Department was the New Madrid County Sheriff’s Department, SEMO Drug Task Force, New Madrid Police Department, Portageville Police Department, New Madrid County Ambulance Service, and the New Madrid County SRT Team.

PBPD warns beware of scammers

The Poplar Bluff Police Department has received reports scammers are calling residents posing as the police department. These suspects are sophisticated, and caller ID shows the calls are coming from a local Police Department with accurate call-back numbers. The suspects tell victims to put money onto a ‘Green Dot’ card and call them back with the card numbers. These are untraceable transactions and cannot be reversed. The PBPD will never ask anyone to provide payment over the phone. Requests or demands for payment by wire transfer, cash cards, or cash apps should be treated with suspicion. One dead following motorcycle accident near Malden

One person was killed in a wreck involving a motorcycle last week near Malden. The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports that a vehicle driven by a 19-year-old Jaymara Madrigal-Gutierrez, of Holcomb, hit the back of a motorcycle on Missouri Highway 25, causing both people on the motorcycle to be ejected. A passenger on the motorcycle, identified as 58-year-old Anita Wyatt, of Bernie, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the motorcycle suffered serious injuries and was flown to a Memphis hospital. Madrigal-Gutierrez and her passenger suffered minor injuries and were transported to a Poplar Bluff hospital. This is the 24th fatality for Troop E this year.
