Sweet N’ Stickey in Dickey Rib Cook-off Returns July 9th

DICKEY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The 13th annual Sweet N’ Stickey in Dickey Rib Cook-off will be held outside of the Dickey Bar on Saturday, July 9th. All proceeds will be given to Hospice of the Red River Valley in memory of loved ones who have passed away, most of whom have received Hospice care in the community.

Edgeley Babe Ruth Defeats Carrington 12-7–Carrington Legion Downs Jamestown B 9-2

Carrington, N.D. (NewsDakota.com)—-The Edgeley Babe Ruth team scored 10 runs in their final 2 at bats and defeated Carrington 12-7. Leading 2-1 going to the 6th inning, both teams scored 4 runs making it a 6-5 lead for Edgeley going to the 7th inning. Six runs in the top of the 7th was the difference as Carrington added 2 runs in the bottom of the frame but Edgekley bheld on for the 12-7 win.

Willprecht Allows Just Three Hits in Complete Game

LISBON, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Oakes Post 36 defeated Lisbon Post 7 by a final score of 3-1 with starting pitcher Fletcher Willprecht delivering a three-hit complete game. Lisbon got the scoring started in the bottom of first with pitcher Cam Opp getting an RBI single. After stranding six batters in the first two innings, Oakes was finally able to get on the scoreboard with a three-RBI double from catcher Gaven Christianson. The story of the day was the pitching for Post 36 thanks to Fletcher Willprecht. He went the full game giving up just three hits, two walks and one earned run while striking out eight batters including the final four batters and retiring the last ten.

Driver Injured In Dickey County Crash

ELLENDALE, N.D. (NDHP) – The North Dakota Highway Patrol (NDHP) said a pickup and two school buses were traveling northbound on Highway 281 eight miles north of Ellendale on Friday, July 1st around 3:30pm. The lead pickup was slowing down to negotiate a left hand turn to travel west bound on 89th St SE. The second school bus hit the brakes and swerved right into the east ditch to avoid striking the lead school bus. The second bus traveled north in the east ditch striking an embankment at the intersection of 89th St SE. The second bus traveled over the embankment striking a highway sign and entered the east ditch again. The second bus sustained front end damage from entering the east ditch a second time.

Canadian woman injured in bus crash near Ellendale

ELLENDALE, N.D. (KFGO) – An Alberta Canada woman was injured after crashing a school bus north of Ellendale, North Dakota yesterday afternoon. The woman was traveling northbound on Highway 281 following another bus which was behind a pickup that slowed to make a left turn. The woman hit the brakes and swerved to the right into the ditch to avoid hitting the other school bus. The bus continued to the north, crashed into the approach and back into the ditch on the other side of the approach.

Oakes Hires Skoglund As New Boys Basketball Head Coach

OAKES, N.D. (Oakes Public School) – Oakes Public School announced that they have hired Jeremy Skoglund as their new varsity boys basketball coach. Coach Skoglund has two children, a daughter, Brooke, who is 23, and son, Trey, who is now a Junior at Oakes High School. Jeremy grew up in Hecla, SD, where he participated in basketball, football, and track. While in high school, he and his teammates appeared in 2 State Basketball Tournaments and 3 State Track Meets. After high school, Jeremy continued pursuing his passion for athletics by running hurdles at SDSU for a year.
