NDHSAA T&F STATE: Fischer wins pole vault crown, Badding state runner-up, and more

The first day of the 2021 NDHSAA State Track and Field Meet kicked off in the most North Dakota way possible. The air temperature was sitting around the mid-to-low 50's and the sky was nearly clear. However, while to the naked eye it would look like a perfect day for track, the wind was gusting into the Bismarck Community Bowl at almost 20 mph.

The road Benson County's Blayne Anderson has traveled in his high school career hasn't been the smoothest, suffering several injuries along the way. "My sophomore year I ended up blowing out my knee in the first quarter of football," said Anderson. "The summer before my senior year in baseball I blew out shoulder diving for a fly ball. I tore my labrum and partially tore my rotator cuff, so I had to miss football my senior year."

DISTRICTS: Four Winds wins 9th straight district crown, New Rockford-Sheyenne, Benson County advance to regionals

Three days of basketball, and some seasons, came to a close on Monday as six squads took the court at New Rockford-Sheyenne in hopes to continue their season and pick up some hardware. Lakota, Harvey/Wells County, Benson County, and Dakota Prairie were all looking to punch their ticket into regionals while New Rockford-Sheyenne was looking to end Four Winds/Minnewaukan's eight-year reign as district champions.
