Bend is a city in and the county seat of Deschutes County, Oregon, United States. It is the principal city of the Bend Metropolitan Statistical Area. Bend is Central Oregon's largest city and, despite its modest size, is the de facto metropolis of the region, owing to the low population density of that area. Bend recorded a population of 76,693 at the time of the 2010 U.S. Census, up from 52,029 at the 2000 census. The estimated population of the city as of 2019 was 100,421. The Bend metro population was estimated at 197,488 as of July 16, 2019. It is the fifth-largest metropolitan area in Oregon.

Columbia Street and Simpson Avenue Roundabout Opens

Bend’s newest roundabout opened today, August 27, at Columbia Street and Simpson Avenue thanks to a multi-agency partnership. The addition of the roundabout was made possible with funding from the Bend Park and Recreation District (BPRD) and Oregon State University-Cascades. The City of Bend Engineering and Infrastructure Planning Department oversaw planning, design and construction management for the project.

Bend City Council ratifies emergency declaration prohibiting fireworks use through Dec. 1, 2021

Tonight, the Bend City Council ratified a local emergency declaration prohibiting the use of all fireworks within Bend city limits through Dec. 1, 2021. The emergency declaration identifies ongoing drought conditions and extreme fire risk as the need for this additional fire prevention measure. The prohibition on fireworks use was supported by Council during its Aug. 4 meeting as a way to preserve public safety and mitigate fire risk until the Council is able to consider a permanent prohibition on the sale and use of fireworks in Bend later this year.

Bend City Council Urges Deschutes County Commission to Mandate Indoor Masks

Today, Bend Mayor Sally Russell sent a letter to the Deschutes County Commission on behalf of the Bend City Council. In the letter, Mayor Russell asks the Deschutes County Commission to mandate mask-wearing for all indoor, public spaces. The letter references the substantial increase in COVID-19 cases, the presence of the Delta variant in Deschutes County, and the status of the local hospital system as the basis for the request.

Utility Department Outback Site Risk Management Program Hands-on Exercise

The City of Bend Utility Department completed an emergency management table-top exercise related to chemical storage at water facilities on June 14 - 25, 2021. The exercise prepares staff and officials to access procedures, protocol and assess vulnerabilities if an emergency should arise. City of Bend budget adjustment recommendations prioritize housing and maintaining service levels for community

During today’s City Council work session, the Council supported staff recommendations for a $13.1 million budget adjustment focused on supporting housing and meeting service needs for the community. The budget adjustments support the 2021-2023 City Council Goals and include $6 million of federal American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funding, with the remainder coming from state funding and other sources. City of Bend extends local state of emergency through end of August | La ciudad de Bend prolonga el estado de emergencia local hasta finales de agosto

The City of Bend is extending the local state of emergency in response to extreme weather conditions through the end of August. The emergency order includes mobilizing City resources to provide support services to unhoused community members and the immediate ban on the use of all fireworks within the City of Bend.
