Kadoka Reunion Weekend “Saluting Our Western Heritage”

The Kadoka All Class Reunion activities kicked off Thursday morning with the Professional Rodeo Cowboy Association (PRCA) rodeo performance featuring rodeo clown Timber Tuckness at the Buffalo Stampede Arena. After the rodeo, the Sundogs performed, providing rodeo attendees with a mix of genres for dancing under the stars at the arena grounds. On Friday, area vendors set up for the Scavenger’s Journey in Belvidere and Kadoka through Sunday. Belvidere and Kadoka became part of the route for the journey in 2019.

Kadoka kicks off a weekend full of events and activities

KADOKA, S.D. — A busy weekend in Kadoka has kicked off on Friday with Scavenger’s Journey and Reunion Weekend, which has a number of events for people to enjoy. Scavenger’s Journey started 10 years ago in Chamberlain to give an economic boost to small-town South Dakota, and this year is Kadoka’s third year as a part of the journey.

Joe is the new Wildlife Damage Specialist for the South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks (GFP) and is based in Murdo. His focus will primarily be assisting landowners and producers with predator control and resolving wildlife damage issues.

Philip area hit with back-to-back storms

A storm moved into the Philip area on Saturday evening, June 11th, shortly after the conclusion of the Philip Match Bronc Ride. This storm picked up steam and eventually turned a five-mile radius around Philip, upside down. Some of the more drastic tornado like activity was large grain bins flying, houses losing windows from hail and wind, and rooftops completely gone from businesses and houses. Power was restored in Philip early Sunday morning and to some outlying areas Sunday afternoon but was lost at about 8:00 p.m. Sunday evening as a second storm hit the area.

Western SD hit by severe weekend storms

Large hail, wind and heavy rain pummeled parts of western South Dakota over the weekend – leaving damage in several communities. Philip was hit two nights in a row – with large hail and straight line winds that damaged structures, trees and power lines. Some 2700 customers were without in the Philip area. Additional crews were being brought in to help out.
