Madison Wine sentencing continued

PARKERSBURG, W.Va. (WTAP) -A woman found guilty of two counts of first-degree murder will wait a little bit longer to be sentenced. Madison Wine had a sentencing hearing Monday in Judge JD Beane’s court. Her defense lawyer asked the court to continue the sentencing because he wants transcripts to help him with post-trial motions.

Scouts honor a century of Camp Kootaga

WALKER — Camp Kootaga had its 100th Anniversary Saturday as past, present and future scouts gathered to celebrate. “Camp Kootaga is the place, for the last 100 years, where a scout could, over the course of a week, learn a variety of life skills that will serve them well in being prepared for all of life’s challenges,” Vernon Criss, chairman of the Kootaga District Committee said during the opening ceremony.

Thumbs Up, Thumbs Down

UP: To those who participated in the United Way Alliance of the Mid-Ohio Valley’s annual Day of Action. There were 23 teams of volunteers from organizations and civic groups working at 18 sites — approximately 275 volunteers. Some of those volunteers got competitive, as was the case during the Battle of the Banks, in which more than $15,000 in food products was packed up to be distributed here in the Mid-Ohio Valley. Local people helping local people. Certainly in a community like ours, it doesn’t get much better than that. Thank you, folks, for your day of service.
