Deputies: Man charged with attempted murder, battery after shooting a man with a crossbow and arrow in Galena

GALENA, Ill. (KWQC) - A Galena man was charged after deputies say he shot a man in the back with a crossbow and arrow Wednesday in Galena. Ronald A. Smith, 35, is charged with two counts of attempted murder, a class X felony, punishable by up to 30 years in prison for each count, and two counts of aggravated battery, a class 3 felony, punishable by up to 5 years in prison for each count. He is currently being held at the Jo Daviess County Jail on a $500,000 bond.

MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) - The body of a man who went missing on the Mississippi River this week was recovered Friday afternoon, the Grant County Sheriff’s Office announced. The sheriff’s office stated that Alan Hartig, 51, was found around 12:45 p.m. Friday by a University of Dubuque flight school helicopter, about 2 miles south of where he was last seen wading in the water.

Galena man shot with crossbow, runs from attacker and finds help

GALENA, Illinois (KCRG) - At approximately 9:08 pm on Wednesday, the Jo Daviess County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call reporting that an individual had been shot. Investigators say that up until April 2022, Ronald A. Smith had been a resident of Galena until a domestic violence incident occurred between Smith and his now-estranged wife. Since then, Smtih had moved away from Galena and was thought to be living in Colorado.

Body of Dubuque man missing on Mississippi River found

GRANT COUNTY, Wisconsin (KCRG) - On June 24th, officials found the body of the man who went missing on the Mississippi River last Wednesday. Investigators say 51-year-old Alan Hartig was in shallow Wisconsin waters just off the shore of Finley’s Landing when his pontoon, which was beached on the sand bar, began drifting down the river. He was last seen pursuing it in the shallow waters.
